Paris comes to a close, ending more than four weeks of shows. a parisian fashion week that was gripping and generous. rich with events and creative energy with moments that will remain etched in history. for instance a precise 8.00pm meet on the first day of collections at ysl to admire the sparkling eiffel tower and the new collection with kaia gerber, the breakthrough catwalk star as well as a choice front row. a strong image of the brand which will be beamed across the world. elsewhere, another sentiment at chanel, eight days later with décor to take the breath away; 48 metres of catwalk, waterfalls and rocky mountains under the nave of the grand palace. a beautiful setting, to show a prolific and protective collection. another strong moment was at dior, with the prestigious guests, visionary décor and a collection full of promise and light. louis vuitton similarly made an impact, by presenting a collection which confronted the past and the future, set in the archeological crypt of the louvre. as for olivier rousteing at balmain who offered the opéra garnier, star guest claudia schiffer and natalia vodianova on the catwalk. paris was marked by highly anticipated premiers which did not disappoint. one example being the new work of natacha ramsay-levi at chloe, an ex-collaborator of nicholas ghesquière, who released a show with a lively and elegant feel with small, cut dresses and subtle motifs. at givenchy, it was claire waight keller making her debut, who presented on a rainy no-car sunday under the arcades of the palais de justice. she knew to heat up the mood, with a very desirable first collection. more discreetly, but also effective, was serge ruffieux’s collection at carven. he established the codes for the new young woman which he nicknamed as “clashcool”. at ungaro, the all new italian designer, joyfully reinterpreted the house’s codes of colour through more technical materials. within days we noted the first collections released by olivier lapidus at lanvin and by richard rené at guy laroche with an homage to the actress and muse of the house mireille darc, who died a few weeks before. lacoste gave us a breather of fresh air with an outdoor show in the heart of the tuileries, a return to paris was appreciated after 15 years of presenting in new york. a week of parties and events which once again made paris shine. musique free from rights : bandit & nikit 2017
