In a major move, the house of Helmut Lang has chosen the experienced menswear designer Mark Howard Thomas to be its new Creative Director for menswear. Thomas, 41, joins Helmut Lang from Joseph, the UK-based house.
The New York-based label has launched its first capsule collection. The new Theory 2.0 collection is intended for the modern working women, and was inspired by ideas from Theory’s younger staff members.
Past recipients HC Contracting, Create-a-Marker, Design Incubator, New York Embroidery Studio are among this year's seven grant recipients, which have in total been awarded close to $750,000 in grants.
The label is ceasing operations immediately while co-founders Shayne Oliver and Leilah Weinraub focus on their careers, at Helmut Lang and in filmmaking, respectively. The duration of the hiatus was not disclosed.
Oliver will create a special collection with Helmut Lang that will debut in September 2017. In addition, Helmut Lang appointed Isabella Burley as editor-in-residence and announced the departure of Alexandre Plokhov.
