(Relaxnews) - Stockholm Design Week, which brands itself as the most important week of the year for Scandinavian design, begins Monday in the Swedish capital, with fairs, exhibitions, collection launches and open studios set to shine a light on the region's rich design offerings.

Anchored by the Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair, an event devoted to Scandinavian design that will bring together buyers, architects and designers from February 7 through 11 (the final day is open to the general public), Stockholm Design Week runs February 6 through 12.

Nearly 80 events are scheduled throughout the city in galleries, shops, studios, showrooms and cultural institutions.

At the Nationalmuseum Design, an exhibition produced by the Design Museum of Helsinki will focus on Finnish designer Eero Aarnio, featuring well-known pieces from the 1950s to the present as well as rarely seen original sketches and documents.

The Stockholm Design District will invite fair-goers to mingle around its showrooms in an annual After Fair Event, while in the Mosebacke Design District, exhibitions of furniture and objects will be found in showrooms, galleries and shops.

Additional design stores and showrooms have a number of public and private events scheduled. Among them, the Marimekko shop will launch its spring 2017 collection created with Carina Seth Anderson, high-end textile brand Kvadrat will host an architectural installation by Doshi Levien, and an exhibition of ceramic works is being held at Props by Kampmann.

At Studio Garanty, interior designer Sara Garanty has curated an exhibition focusing on colors and light and featuring eight designers and artists, while interior design company Svenskt Tenn is featuring an exhibition of lamps designed for the company by the Nordic designer Shadow Play.
