Scotland-based footwear retailer Schuh has announced that David Spencer, its Buying Director, is to leave the business after 21 years at the company. We weren’t told exactly why he’s leaving with Managing Director Colin Temple saying: “We’ve agreed that David will leave the business with immediate effect and we wish him well in any future endeavours.”

Spencer joined the business initially as Men’s Buyer and was subsequently promoted to his current role in 2008. In 2011 he was also asked to take on additional marketing responsibilities and became Product and Marketing Director. He held this role until May last year when he handed over his marketing remit to the new Chief Marketing Officer, Alice Cleary.

Clealry, he’s had a major impact on the firm in his two decades+ and this can be seen from the fact that when he started there, the business traded from 17 stores and didn’t have a webstore. In the subsequent 21 years, the business has grown substantially and is now trading from 136 stores, having also developed into a multi-channel retailer.

Temple added: “It is appropriate that we take this opportunity to convey our sincere thanks and respect for David’s efforts and to highlight his part over the last 21 years to the success of the business that we recognise today as Schuh.”

He also said that Spencer “leaves a highly talented and motivated team who will work with the business to evolve the buying structure moving forward.”
