There are the 'icons', featuring Leonardo DiCaprio ("...such a galvanizing force to protect our planet," according to US Secretary of State John Kerry), Adele, Usain Bolt and Lewis Hamilton; the 'titans', among them Mark Zuckerberg and his wife Priscilla Chan; the 'pioneers' such as Caitlyn Jenner; the 'artists' such as Charlize Theron, Idris Elba and Ariana Grande, and the 'leaders', foremost among them Christine Lagarde, Angela Merkel, Mauricio Macri, Barack Obama and White House hopefuls Bernie Sanders, Hillary Clinton, Donald Trump and Ted Cruz.

First in the 'leaders' category was IMF Director Christine Lagarde who "has ably led the IMF through a tumultuous era for the world economy", followed by Aung San Suu Kyi, François Hollande, Vladimir Putin, Kim Jong Un and Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who "has changed his country for the better by empowering millions of people who had never before participated in their nation’s political and economic life," wrote Ian Bremmer, who mentioned how at the same time the Turkish President is " an egotistical (...) person whose thirst for power has imperilled freedom of speech in Turkey and pushed his country toward authoritarianism."

Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg and his wife Priscilla Chan were described by Bill and Melinda Gates as people who "care deeply about fixing the inequities they see in the world."

Givenchy’s Riccardo Tisci was presented by Donatella Versace as "an agitator, a rebel, someone who pushes boundaries and defies convention, someone who brings together fashion with art and other cultures."

Among the other names in Time's list there also appear rapper Nicki Minaj, basketball player Stephen Curry, Pope Francis, Apple's boss Tim Cook, Academy Award winner director Alejandro Gonzalez Iñarritu, Chinese fashion designer Guo Pei and US fashion model Karlie Kloss.
