A brief post on Raf Simons’s Instagram account has been enough to stir sneaker aficionados. The Belgian designer is in fact about to unveil a new sneaker line called (RUNNER), whose first models are expected to be presented at the upcoming show by his eponymous label on January 15 in Paris.

Last December, Ralf Simons introduced a collaboration with rock band The XX, and is busy with plenty of new initiatives at the start of this year too. The first project heralded by the star designer, formerly with Dior and Calvin Klein, is an exclusive line of functional, sports-inspired sneakers called (RUNNER), which is said to feature natural materials like leather and suede.

True to Simons’s style codes, the line is likely to echo the designer’s cinematic, futuristic influences. Raf Simons has already revealed the names of the line's new models, all of them referencing constellations and space: Orion, Solaris, Antei, Cyclon and 2001, the latter clearly a nod to Stanley Kubrick’s cult sci-fi movie ‘2001: A Space Odyssey’.

Simons has always been very productive in the sneaker arena and, thanks to his lengthy association with Adidas, he can claim to have created many iconic models, like the Ozweego and the Samba Stan. However, his collaboration with the German sport giant seems to have come to an end, since Adidas is not involved in (RUNNER). The new line is expected to be available for sale between June and September, and no pricing indication has yet been provided.
