March 14 - German sportswear company Puma said Monday that Franz Koch would become its next chief executive as part of the firm's transformation into a European corporation.

Koch, 32, will also join the Puma management board with immediate effect as chief strategic officer, a statement said.

Puma is majority owned by the French group PPR, which decided last year to make former Puma boss Jochen Zeitz the head of PPR's sport and lifestyle group.

Zeitz took over the reins at Puma 18 years ago at the age of 30.

The changes are expected to be approved at a general shareholders assembly on April 14, the statement said.
