Irish fashion chain has appointed José Luis Martínez de Larramendi to head up the retail operations of its business in Central and Eastern Europe, a role he will combine with his responsibilities as President of Primark US.

“José Luis Martínez de Larramendi was named as new Retail Director of Primark in the United States and Eastern Europe, with effect from 1 July 2019,” Primark told FashionNetwork.com.

The executive first joined Primark in 2008 as Director General Spain & Portugal, according to his LinkedIn profile. In 2015, he transferred to the brand’s US division to lead its expansion across North America, a role he will continue to hold.

“The international experience of Martínez de Larramendi and his expertise in opening stores in new markets such as Spain, Portugal, France and the United States are crucial to Primark’s success as the company continues to expand,” said the firm.

As the boss of the business in Central and Eastern Europe, Martínez de Larramendi will have a “particular responsibility” in Slovenia, where Primark opened its first store in June. Additionally, the executive will oversee Primark’s expansion into Poland and the Czech Republic in 2020, the clothing retailer announced.

Martínez de Larramendi’s appointment is part of a series of recent hires and promotions within the fashion chain. Last December, the company appointed Carlos Inacio as new Director of Sales for the Spanish market; while his predecessor Stephen Mullen became Head of Retail in Ireland and Southern Europe.
