MILAN - Moschino presented an ironic twist on the Nutcracker soldier to kick off the third day of Milan fashion week on Friday, with a parade of colourful military-style outfits, jazzed up for party girls.

Moschino's catwalk presentation described the show as a "swinging parade" and "a fantastic vision of coloured soldiers and 'pop' uniforms" and designer Rossella Jardini's collection laid bare the good Nutcracker's wild biker side.

The military beat had the girls marching round the catwalk like clockwork soldiers, but there was a cheeky glint in looks shot from under bold, wide-brimmed black hats fixed with large straps and worn with dark glasses.

Blue, yellow or pillar-box red woollen coats and jackets with gold buttons set off-centre, were worn with trousers sporting vertical coloured stripes by models with their hair piled high, beehive-style, evoking tall military hats.

Black, white and red leather jackets were worn with black skinny trousers with white on the knees or miniskirts.

Purple and red jackets were complimented by feathered skirts and long black leather gloves, and in one instance, a cape.

The playful spirit continued with Moschino's dresses, where an Audrey Hepburn-inspired cut was given a Calamity Jane-style twist and worn with bold glittering bangles, a jewelled mini rucksack or large black bows in the hair.
