The Covid-19 crisis has prompted the Missoni group to reshuffle its senior management. Margherita Maccapani Missoni, daughter of Angela Missoni, the Italian label’s president and creative director, has stepped down as creative director of the label’s line targeting a younger audience, M Missoni, a role she had taken on in 2018.

“In response to the reduction and evolution of consumption in the fashion sector caused by the pandemic, the company is carrying out an internal reorganisation of the design and communications departments, in order to boost the natural synergies and quality attributes in our collections’ design,” said the CEO Livio Proli in a communiqué, without offering further details on the reorganisation.

“We think it is our duty to act swiftly in this respect, both to assist all our customers in the retail and wholesale channels and to strengthen our relationship with the consumers of all Missoni brands,” added Proli. He also underlined how the Missoni family and the Fondo Strategico Italiano investment fund, which has held a 41.2% stake in the Missoni group since 2018, “have unanimously confirmed, with great commitment and enthusiasm, their support for our robust post-pandemic relaunch plan.”

The label has announced that, given this development, Maccapani Missoni has decided not to continue her professional collaboration with the group, for personal reasons that “will not prevent her from remaining close to the company.”

Maccapani Missoni had returned to Missoni after various professional experiences outside the group, notably launching an independent childrenswear label. She had been in charge of style at M Missoni since 2018, when the line, which had previously been managed under license, came back into the group’s fold. The label has confirmed to FashionNetwork.com that her departure does not mean the line will be discontinued, but it will continue to operate under the aegis of an internal design team.

Proli has also announced two new appointments. Giacomo and Ottavio Jr, two of the three sons of Vittorio Missoni, Angela’s brother, who passed away in 2013, have been given new responsibilities. Giacomo is taking charge of Missoni’s US subsidiary as CEO, while Ottavio Jr, who led Missoni USA alongside former CEO Antonio Moltoni, has returned to the group’s headquarters in Sumirago, Italy, to oversee the group’s sustainable development department.
