Nursery retailer Mamas & Papas is offering a new online personal shopping service for pregnant women. It marks an acceleration of plans already in place pre-pandemic as a direct result of the outbreak.

The one-hour appointments will offer customers the chance to get much-needed advice from a team of personal shoppers, giving pregnant women – who are classed as a vulnerable group – a new shopping experience without having to leave the house.

The launch of the new service coincides with the reopening of 16 Mamas & Papas stores across the UK on Monday. This will allow personal shoppers to chat directly to customers over video call straight from the shop floor, providing live demonstrations and inspiration.

Alex Holt, marketing director at Mamas & Papas, said: “There’s never been a more relevant time to embrace our community and be there for new and expectant parents.

“Customers can chat to a real person, in a real store, and get an instant answer to any questions they have from the comfort and safety of their home. The virtual Personal Shop is a first for the industry and a big step forward for the brand.

“Although we accelerated the launch in response to Covid-19, these digital services will continue beyond the restrictions as they suit the needs of busy parents. Ultimately, it gives parents a different way to engage and shop with us.”

Indeed, virtual shopping services could become more common post-Covid-19. John Lewis was one of the first UK retailers to adapt its in-store services to take them online in April, and Boots is now offering virtual makeup and skincare consultations.
