The "Fashion Index" report, issued by real estate website Trulia, revealed there are more fashion businesses and more real estate opportunities for the fashion industry in LA than in any other US city.

The study also considered consumer based Yelp classifications of fashion businesses. With LA leading manufacturing in America, it makes sense from a commercial real estate standpoint.

What might be unexpected is the style factor. The report also found "the most coveted closets" belong to LA celebrities Kendall Jenner, Chrissy Teigen, Yolanda Foster and Kim Kardashian.

USC professor and cultural economy expert Elizabeth Currid-Halkett said of LA's win, "the fact that Los Angeles is arguably the country's biggest manufacturing center for fashion will have spillover in terms of  what's actually available. What LA is really good at is high-end casual sportswear. LA is gaining in reputation."

With LA having access to Hollywood celebrities, it makes it a natural for marketing positioning and image to count for the city's first place spot.

With respect to the study, Trulia also found Anaheim as a hotbed for fashion cities, as well as Riverside, CA. This arguably stems from Southern California and Orange County being the action sports apparel and manufacturing center of the country.
