Jean-Paul Goude unveils debut capsule line for Desigual

Jean-Paul Goude has kicked of Desigual's new image with a premier capsule collection for spring/summer 2018. Sticking to a his playful style and mixing it with that of the Spanish brand, the French illustrator and director has developed around ten ethnic-inspired looks.

Named creative director of Desigual over the summer, Jean-Paul Goude is in charge of the brand's global image for the next three years, including collections, campaigns and runway shows. He first showcased his styling back on the the New York runway in September 7; a highly anticipated show, following his creative appointment, which created much surprise in the industry.

For his debut as creative director, Goude has taken inspiration from different elements across the globe. The creative has reimagined the codes of Vietnamese dresses, French boater hats and African animal jungle prints, for a series of playful pieces alive with colour.

The illustrator offers graphic ready-to-wear graphic with fishnet dresses slit at the sides from the chest and crop jackets. Jean-Paul Goude also played on volumes with bodysuits and batwing sleeves, midriffs and even teddies.

The arrival of the French director to helm of his rather visual capsule collection, dubbed Desigual Couture, comes at a time of transformation for the Spanish label, at a design level but also in the reorganisation of its retail network, which recorded a drop in sales in the past few seasons.
