House of Fraser announces new UK anchor store and China openings

House of Fraser, the British department store chain, has announced the opening of its first store at an out-of-town retail and leisure complex. The company also revealed international expansion plans in Asia and the Middle East.

The new anchor store will measure 64,000 sqft. and be located at the new Rushden Lakes Retail and Leisure complex in Northamptonshire. It's the first new House of Fraser bricks & mortar store to open since 2008, when the company opened anchor stores at Victoria Square Belfast, Cabot Circus Bristol and Westfield White City.

Nigel Oddy, CEO at House of Fraser, said: “We are extremely pleased to announce that we have signed an agreement to open our first store at the new out of town Retail and Leisure complex in Rushden Lakes. A physical store presence will allow us to serve acatchment area where House of Fraser has previously had a loyal customer base, as well as providing an opportunity to introduce our proposition to new customers.“

House of Fraser also revealed it is shortly opening its second store in Abu Dhabi and that it plans to open more stores in the Middle East. Following the acquisition by Nanjing Cenbest, House of Fraser plans to open stores across China, starting with three large stores in major Chinese cities: Nanjing, Chongqing and Xuzhou. The retailer will also begin to trade online in both China and other markets, starting with Australia.
