US beauty brand Glossier has made its ambitious plans for Europe clear, appointing Gemma Bellman to the newly created post of director of Europe. Formerly the President of the Get the Gloss website, specialised in beauty and wellness advice, the young British manager has also been a member of the executive board of the British Beauty Council, the UK’s representative body for the beauty industry, since last October.

As the head of Glossier’s European business, Gemma Bellman will be in charge of her home country, the UK, and of Ireland, Sweden, Denmark and France, where the US label launched a dedicated e-shop on October 23.

It was undoubtedly Gemma Bellman’s entrepreneurial drive which made her attractive to Glossier’s senior management. Besides her experiences at L’Oréal Luxe and with the advisory board of UK beauty e-tailer Feelunique, in 2013 Bellman also created BeautySpotter, an app she then sold in 2016, which enables users to search for hair and manicure salons by the work they create, and window-shop for their favourite looks.

Last December, Emily Weiss, 30, who founded Glossier in 2014, told Bloomberg TV that her web-born beauty brand is expected to top the $100 million (€88 million) revenue mark in 2018.
