The American clothing chain launches its Madrid store inside El Corte Inglés on September 3, thanks to a partnership deal with the Spanish department store.

Gap lands in Madrid with a store at El Corte Inglés

The store, which will retail Gap’s menswear, womenswear and childrenswear collections, becomes the fourth of the brand on Spanish soil. Its alliance with El Corte Inglés debuted earlier in March and has allowed the brand to open stores in Bilbao, Málaga and Barcelona.

Gap International’s senior vice-president, Stefan Laban, highlighted the brand’s alliance with Spain’s El Corte Inglés, which will allow Gap to “leverage the strengths of a local partner”, while offering its experience in the fashion and retail field.

“We are very pleased to extend our presence in Europe and bring our in-store shopping experience to Spanish consumers, who are already familiar with the casual American style of Gap”, he said.

The clothing label, which was previously only available in Spain through its online website, plans to continue growing in the country over the next couple of months. Earlier this year Gap opened a new store in the Malaga airport, unveiling its largest airport store worldwide. The company also expects to create four further airport stores in Ibiza, Canaria, Tenerife North and Tenerife South by the end of this year.
