Fashion label Karl Lagerfeld is developing a luxury real estate complex in Marbella, Spain, consisting of five exclusive villas. The first of them has already been sold off-plan for approximately €15 million.

The villa’s buyer is a Dutch businessman who intends to become a Costa del Sol resident.

This is the French label's first foray into real estate as a developer. Karl Lagerfeld’s CEO Pier Paolo Righi, who has been closely involved in the project since its inception, told the EFE agency it is more than likely this won’t be the only real estate project undertaken by the label.

“Karl's vision has always included a willingness to open doors to other worlds, and he did so, day by day, in many ways,” said Righi, who underlined that “architectural design was an integral part of this vision.”

This is a unique initiative for the label and the luxury residential market, one in which Lagerfeld's passion for architecture, photography, interior design, innovation and sustainability will be reflected in every detail of the villas’ design and construction, he added.

Ever since the Karl Lagerfeld villas project was announced in 2021, interest among prospective buyers has been huge, said Carlos Rodríguez, CEO of Spanish real estate developer Sierra Blanca Estates.

“This commercial landmark will help write our company’s future,” also said Rodríguez, who underlined he was pleased about this “trend-setting” initiative, developed by Sierra Blanca Estates with Karl Lagerfeld and international architecture studio The One Atelier.

The villas will be situated on a plot of over 9,000 square metres in one of Marbella’s most exclusive residential areas, the Golden Mile, and construction work is expected to be completed in Q3 2024, according to Rodríguez.

“Never before have we undertaken a residential property project with the prospect of commercialising much more than a unique home, but a brand experience too,” said Rodríguez, adding that the Karl Lagerfeld villas will be distinctive for their stand-out excellence.

Michele Galli, head of The One Atelier, indicated that “everything to do with this project, from the master plans to the minutest interior details,” has been painstakingly researched and translated into a unique, unprecedented architectural language, taking into account “Karl's life, his passions, his values and his work.”
