Fila unveils Oliver Spencer collab with Rankin-shot campaign

Fila’s latest collaboration was unveiled on Friday as the sports brand linked up with British designer Oliver Spencer on a sustainably made collection inspired by Fila’s tennis heritage and Wes Anderson’s 2001 classic movie The Royal Tenenbaums

Fila x Oliver Spencer

It’s being sold exclusively on Fila’s UK webstore, Spencer’s e-commerce site and on Mr Porter. And 10% of all sales will go to the latter’s mental health charity, Health in Mind.

The collection features Fila classics such as the Hayward Jersey Jacket, Benedict Polo, and matching Ari Jersey Shorts. There’s a 1980s edge and an updated twist on heritage styles. Spencer has also used the influence of Dapper Dan and mixed this with Fila’s sportswear style and his own contemporary take on lifestyle. The company said that gives the pieces “a fluid easy-to-wear feeling”.

A terry-towel corduroy “that is super-soft and exudes richness of colour” was specifically developed for the collection by Spencer. Meanwhile, hero pieces made in the designer’s Auckland Navy, Auckland Red and Auckland Cream “pay tribute to the classic Fila colourways seen on and off the court for generations”.

He said the “collection feels very nostalgic, yet modern while using all of our sustainable credentials”.

It’s clearly a big deal for all the participants as underlined by the fact that the campaign supporting the launch was shot by Rankin.
