Esprit's choice for the Asia-Pacific region went to a manager experienced in the luxury segment, who spent nearly twenty years with LVMH. It's an area full of symbolic significance for the Hong Kong-listed retail brand, currently in some difficulty. Guillaume Thery succeeds Tanya Todd and will report directly to CEO Jose Manuel Martinez.

Thery was notably in charge of Louis Vuitton for Thailand and Vietnam, and in 2004 he was appointed General Manager for the French label's Taiwanese subsidiary. Lately he was President of LVMH Fashion Group Asia, in charge of a brand portfolio which included among others Céline, Loewe, Givenchy and Marc Jacobs for the Chinese and South Korean markets.

The Asia-Pacific region accounts for 16.5% of Esprit's activities. During the last fiscal year, ended 30th June, sales in China fell by 14.2% at a constant exchange rate, reaching HKD1.5 billion (equivalent to €169 million). China accounts for just under half of the group's Asia-Pacific activities.
