In November, the e-commerce platform recorded about 60 million sessions, double the number it saw in September. These were the results of a study by international marketing platform SEMrush, which measured the number of sessions Dutch e-commerce websites registered in the period September through November 2018. Sessions include user interactions on the site such as visits; navigation; social interaction or transactions.

Black Friday largely contributed to the surge, the report said. But the busiest shopping day of the year came before Christmas, on Monday Dec. 17, the retailer said earlier this week. That day, it processed about 25 holiday gifts per second, with an average order amount of around 55 euros.  The most popular gifts included Guess’ women’s perfume, Seductive, and personal care products by Dutch label Rituals.

Bol.com has reached similar heights in other e-commerce rankings, too: In September, it was named the largest Dutch online store in the Netherlands by e-commerce trade publication, Twinkle, on its Twinkle100 list of the largest online retailers in the Netherlands based on revenue.

Bol.com earned the number one spot for recording 1.2 billion euros in Dutch revenue in 2017. Zalando stood at number three on the list, with a recorded 670 million euros, followed by Wehkamp  with 570 million euros.

Bol.com has been one of the most popular online stores in the Netherlands and Belgium since its launch in 1999. The e-tailer currently serves over 9 million Dutch and Belgian customers. Its assortment includes 16 million items in more than 20 product categories, ranging from personal care products, accessories and jewellery to books, electronics and children’s clothing. Bol.com has been part of Ahold Delhaize since May 2012. The headquarters is based in Utrecht and currently employs more than 1,400 people.
