The new addition marks the fifth Hema shop in London and the seventh in the UK. The Dutch chain offers clothing, beauty and personal care, and accessories for men, women and children. In addition, the retailer also offers products for the home, which are organized around themes, such as study, living and kitchen.

Richard Flint, International Director and Hema management team member said“International expansion is an important part of our growth strategy. We see big opportunities for growth in the UK and especially in London. Our strategy will primarily focus on establishing a presence of several Hema stores per city and we are particularly excited by this store, which will now be our flagship in the UK.”

Hema opened its first international branch in 1984 in Belgium, followed by Germany and Luxembourg two decades later. In 2014, the retailer announced expansion to the UK and Spain.

Hema currently operates more than 700 branches in 7 European countries, offering 32,000 brand products and services. The first Hema opened in 1926. At the moment, the retailer employs about 11,000 people.
