Dior calls port in Brooklyn with 2015 cruise collection

Raf Simons, artistic director of ready-to-wear and accessories for Dior women's wear, chose Brooklyn as the world stage for his 2015 cruise collection, docking the show at the Brooklyn Navy Yard on the banks of the East River. Many celebrities were on hand, including Marion Cotillard, Chiara Mastroianni and Rihanna, seated next to Sidney Toledano, president of Christian Dior Couture.

Besides the historical importance of the U.S. to the luxury market, the choice of venue is closely linked to the collection’s inspiration, with the French carré or silk scarf as leitmotif. The fashion house says the collection celebrates "the meeting of American style and pure Dior inspiration."

"The runway show celebrated the meeting of Dior spirit with American style "(DR)

"America is a constant inspiration for me," said Raf Simons. “The pop culture, the energy, the fluidity... there is just something so alive here. What I always like in America is that there is such a melting pot of styles. But there is always a look – a strong look. Whether it is uptown or downtown, East or West coast, there is always a strength and reality to how women dress here."
