Denim Première Vision is asserting its role as key player and promoter of the denim industry. At the latest Barcelona edition, the denim show organised a series of conferences designed to offer key insights to its more then 3,800 visitors. These 'Smart Talks', produced together with specialist firm Blue Lab, focused on the industry's innovations and initiatives, notably in the field of eco-responsibility.

The spring session was the chance to tackle key themes such as innovation or eco-responsibility - Denim Premère Vision

The show's organiser further explored the issue via an exhibitors' survey, and has now published the survey's results, with the aim of highlighting some of the industry's best practices.

Two thirds of the exhibitors responded to the Denim Première Vision questionnaire. Their responses indicate that 90% of them have at least one European fabric supplier. Italy is the choice of 71% of respondents, while Turkey is in second most popular sourcing country.

Out of all respondents, 86% have Europe or Turkey-based manufacturing facilities. Half of them have at least one facility in Turkey. 93% of respondents claimed their manufacturing processes are wholly or partially traceable and transparent.

The survey also stressed the environmental concerns of an industry which has long been singled out for its production practices. Three fourths of the responding companies reported they have taken steps to curb energy consumption by exploiting photovoltaic systems, integrated or wind-powered manufacturing, and have also worked on water saving. Finally, 9 out of 10 companies stated they have set up internal initiatives to reduce the use of chemicals.

Première Vision's intention is to underline and promote these values, also claiming that "eco-responsibility merits sexier marketing."
