Champion designs collection for gamers

Hanesbrands' Champion Athleticwear brand has unveiled a new collection of apparel dedicated to gamers.

Made for both casual and professional gamers, the 'Gamer Collection' was designed to address the specific needs of esports athletes, the brand said. Pieces from the collection include a pullover hoodie, full zip hoodie and pants available in black and heather gray, made using fleece fabric that features odor control technology for long wear.

The gamer collection's star product is its hoodie model, which marks Champion's newest patent-pending hoodie in over 50 years. The hoodie features an oversized hood that can be worn over headsets of all sizes, narrowed sleeves, a rib cuff that will stay in place when pushed up onto the forearm, and pockets lined with micro-fleece.

The design also features a kangaroo pocket with zippers and a top loading pocket to hold console controllers; an additional chest zip pocket with an internal credit card slot; and an interchangeable velcro patch that allows gamers, who are participating in tournaments, to decorate themselves with team patches.

The gaming pants are priced at $50, while the pullover hoodie retails for $80 and the full-zip hoodie for $90.

“As a brand that embraces all sports, we wanted to create an unofficial uniform for gamers that modernizes the classic hoodie and recognizes that they are athletes with distinctive needs for their sport,” said David Robertson, director of Champion global brand marketing.

“Our Reverse Weave patents came about as we were trying to solve the needs of athletes at the time, and we’ve taken the same approach to create a brand-new design for the gamer lifestyle."

Targeting a new genre of athletes, the collection will see Champion partner with a range of esports teams, brands and influencers including HyperX, Dignitas, VENN, PlayVS, the Esports Awards, FaZe Pamaj, Nate Hill and FaZe Blaze, the brand said.

The Gamer Collection will be available through Champion.com and Champion’s retail stores.
