C&A expands into bridal wear market
Dutch fashion retailer C&A is restructuring its organisation across Europe, while looking to expand by introducing new product categories. After launching a home linen range in France in the autumn, in 2019 C&A wants to enter the bridal wear market.
For spring 2019, C&A is launching a collection of wedding dresses that will be available in-store and online from April 4. The six outfits are all in a classic white colour, but they have a contemporary feel, with virtually no frills except for a few lace details, and offer a range of cuts to suit different tastes and body shapes. There are long, short and mid-length dresses and also a jumpsuit.
C&A is positioned in the mid-market segment, and the prerequisite of its first bridal wear collection is affordability: the prices range from €29.90 for a bolero jacket and €179.90 for a tulle dress with a petticoat. The line also features a bridal lingerie capsule collection.
Many designer and premium labels, like Sessùn, Balzac Paris and Stella McCartney, regularly include wedding dresses in their range, but there now is a growing number of mainstream fashion retailers and chains trying to make bridal wear more democratic, selling wedding dresses for under €100. Among them, Kiabi, H&M, Monoprix and Zeeman, the latter selling a dress for €29.99.
