The 50th edition of the US Open Championships, the tennis tournament scheduled in Flushing Meadows, New York, from August 27 to September 9, will be the occasion for the launch of an unexpected collaboration. Celebrity designer Virgil Abloh, the current Creative Director of Louis Vuitton’s menswear and the founder of Off-White, has in fact designed the match outfits for tennis superstar Serena Williams, in collaboration with her technical sponsor, Nike.

Serena Williams, a six-times US Open winner, is used to her on-court looks being widely discussed, as was the case for the all-black catsuit she wore at the latest edition of the French Open.

For the US Open, Virgil Abloh dreamed up two ballet-inspired outfits, one for the day and one for the evening, featuring the Nike swoosh underneath the word ‘Logo’, in his typically surrealist style. Both outfits will be available from August 27 at the Nike Lab in SoHo, New York, priced at $500. The top will instead cost $900.

The ‘Queen’ capsule collection also includes a handbag, the NikeCourt Flare 2 trainers, and limited editions of the Air Max 97 and Blazer Mid SW trainers, the latter two available on Nike’s e-store.
