Solid Sun Logistics launches ocean friendly gentle skincare line

Orange County-based Solid Sun Logistics has added an eco-friendly skincare line to its emerging product assortment of sustainable apparel and accessories.

The new skincare line is based around a three step regime. It includes a mineral based sunscreen and sunscreen stick, an exfoliating face and body wash, and a repairing body lotion.

The brand is founded on the idea of doing no unnecessary harm to people's bodies or to the environment, and the new skincare line follows this same principal. The brand's core consumer is into water sports, particularly stand up paddling (SUP).

Solid Sun co-founder and CEO Thomas Bissell said “You can’t be out in the water as much as my friends and I are and not be concerned about the sun’s damaging properties."

Bissell developed the line with his wife who is a medical doctor. Their process included removing ingredients that were harmful to the oceans, reefs, and to the body, and their trial participants included surfers, sailors, mountain climbers and skiers.

After the new skincare line got its FDA approval, Bissell himself tested it in an eight hour SUP voyage where he paddled from Catalina Island to Newport Beach. Bissell called it the skincare line's "baptism by fire," and claimed that completing this trial made him sure that he was ready to bring the product to market.

The skincare line joins existing apparel and accessories already in Solid Sun's product assortment. The brand's apparel uses organic cotton, recycled PET and also offers sun protection UPF benefits. Solid Sun intends to expand its UPF apparel assortment and also add more sun care cosmetics.

The company donates five percent of its sales to environmental and ocean nonprofit organizations including Wildcoast and the Pacific Marine Mammal Center.

Solid Sun was founded by Thomas Bissell and Florian Mitzscherlich. The duo previously worked with Scout There, a Newport Beach creative branding agency. Solid Sun's skincare line hovers around $30 per item for full sizes. An essentials skincare kit sells for $130 online through the company's e-commerce site.
