Coty on Tuesday announced the retirement of Ralph Macchio, Chief Scientific Officer and Senior Vice President of Global Research & Development, after 25 years with the company. He will leave Coty on June 30, 2017.

Ralph Macchio, Chief Scientific Officer and SVP of Global Research & Development, will retire from Coty on June 30, 2017.

As Chief Scientific Officer, Macchio was responsible for all scientific, global regulatory, and consumer affairs, and he is the author of several patents and publications. In 2007, he received the Lifetime Achievement Award in Product Innovation, and under his leadership, Coty received the Achievement in Innovation Award from the Consumer Goods Technology Group in 2011.

He agreed to postpone his retirement until after the merger and integration with P&G Beauty Business was well advanced.

“Ralph has been an amazing R&D leader in the beauty industry and retires after a truly distinguished career,” said CEO Camillo Pane. “He has developed many iconic products over the years, pioneered radical and breakthrough technologies and authored numerous patents. These include our highly successful Sally Hansen Miracle Gel, one of the biggest nail successes in beauty, having won 34 awards, and Rimmel Lash Accelerator Mascara, proven to help grow lashes, to name just two.”

Macchio’s successor will be named in the near future. During the interim period, the R&D team will report to Pane.
