Pitti Immagine boosts support for young generation

Pitti Immagine is increasingly making its presence felt alongside new talents. The show organiser has created an ad hoc internal division engaged full-time in supporting young international designers with whom it is in touch.

Pitti Immagine has announced the creation of a 'Tutorship Division' as of January 2016. The company stated in a press release that the division consists of "a team exclusively dedicated to aiding, backing and supporting designers in their entrepreneurial and professional development."

The project came into being as the culmination of the various reflections evolved over the course of the seasons, and of the initiatives featured at the Pitti Uomo menswear show. Seven years ago, the latter notably launched 'Who’s on Next?', a competition for young menswear design talents in collaboration with the Altaroma agency and Vogue Homme.

The 'Pitti Italics' initiative was then added, a programme through which the show's foundation, Pitti Discovery, promotes and supports the new generations of fashion designers and the most interesting brands that create and manufacture their collections in Italy, with an eye towards international markets.

In January 2014 it was the turn of the 'Fashion Buzz' project, in collaboration with L’Uomo Vogue and GQ Italia magazines. The project selects a handful of promising, young international menswear designers.  Finally, for many seasons now, one country is selected as guest of honour, giving its emerging designers the opportunity of making a name for themselves at Pitti Uomo.

The great novelty this year is that the forthcoming Pitti Uomo (12th-15th January) will host the menswear final of the International Woolmark Prize 2015-16!

Through its new division, Pitti Immagine also allows young blades to be supported over and above their participation in these different initiatives. The Tutorship Division will be led by Florence-born Riccardo Vannetti, a former fashion journalist and a recognised industry expert.

The team around him still needs to be built. "His work will know no boundaries, focusing initially, but not exclusively, on the community of young designers grown around our projects dedicated to the young generations," explained Pitti boss Raffaello Napoleone.

It is a way for the Florence show to consolidate its relationship with the new generations with a medium and long-term outlook.
