PFW: at Hermès, an après-sport mood

Published

Designer Nadège Vanhee-Cybulski is not afraid to tamper with the Hermès codes – taking a classic heraldic and key motif-print silk shirt and turning it into a bold patchwork blouse. She is a designer who lives in her time, and reinterprets all the amazing leather resources of this label – by using the contemporary trends like shaggy shearling helms, brash multi-colors and mixed media. Take one delightful bomber jacket for example: an assemblage of suede, shearling and cashmere pinstripe completed with high-tech clasps and buckles.

Adding to the smart casual air: the models appeared in Ally McGraw knitted skullcaps, their necks bearing fine gold necklaces. It’s curious that in Vanhee-Cybulski’s previous collection for spring 2017 she concentrated on developing easy-to-wear professional clothes for women. Whereas for the coming winter, her focus was very much on leisure – like the swish, ruffled floral frocks.

All based, unexpectedly, on huge lace-up platform Pinball Wizard boots that Roger Daltry would have been proud to have worn in Tommy, with many looks dissected by multi-color, studded weight-lifter belts.

All told, even if Hermès will always be a house devoted to the concept of quiet elegance, Vanhee-Cybulski understands that in a maximalist era – sometimes girls just want to have fun.
