One of the most hotly anticipated items from Hunter’s limited-edition collaboration with Target has been cancelled, the US chain announced on Friday.

The collection’s women’s tall rain boots, one of Hunter’s most coveted styles, were delayed when the rest of the 300-piece collection launched on 14 April, and Target has now announced they will not be made available because the production “simply didn’t meet our standards, Hunter’s standards, or the standards
we want guests to have when they shop at Target.”

The footwear style was based on Hunter’s Original Boot, first introduced in 1956 and handcrafted from natural rubber using many intricate techniques. Each pair of the Original boots is made from 28 parts and assembled over three days.

The collaboration with Target was making the style, which normally retails for around $150 USD, become available for $45.

“While this collaboration has brought joy to millions of guests who have shopped it over the past week, the risk of further disappointing our guests is a risk we aren’t willing to take. Rest assured we’ll look into how this happened, and we’ll work hard to ensure it doesn’t happen again,” said Target.

The discount retailer is working with a third party to recycle the boots.
