Aspinal of London has linked up with model David Gandy for a capsule accessory offer called the Aerodrome Collection.

David Gandy has collaborated with Aspinal of London on a retro-inspired collection

The 18-piece line features travel and business accessories and the company said it’s inspired by Britain’s rich aeronautical heritage, particularly by the Spitfire, the fighter aircraft used by the RAF before, during and after World War II.

As the Spitfire connection suggests, the feel is very retro and the company also collaborated for the occasion with Finlay & Co on aviator sunglasses with a retro edge.

The luxury accessories company will also sell the collection at its first ever airport store, a just-opened pop-up that will be open through the summer at the busy Heathrow Terminal 5. The pop-up also sells other travel-themed products and offers personalisation services. During May it will have embroiderers Hand & Lock on-site to personalise scarves and journals

Back with Gandy’s collection, the designs have details that reference back to the Spitfire with round locks on briefcases said to look like firing buttons, and zip pulls designed to look like propellers. The backpacks reference the bags in which parachutes are packed. There is also a vanity case, a suit carrier and other travel bags. The pieces carry an Aerodrome K5054 badge. Prices start at £60 for a keyring and rise to almost £1,200. A leather backpack is £795.

Gandy has been shot for the campaign supporting the launch with a vintage plane with his dog appearing in some images, perhaps referencing the presence of the dog in the movie The Dambusters.
